Money Tips for South America

It pays to take a few travellers cheques with you, especially if you travel to Argentina. They have a shortage of cash and if you dont get to the ATM early, they may run out of money. If your bank card doesn't work, you could find yourself in trouble.

Keep your coins, as precise change is needed for the buses. In Colombia, don't change money at a money exchange at airports. Instead, find an ATM in the terminal. If not, they will only give you a 2 to 1 exchange rate when the real rate can be 6 to 1. (I am talking $US). Happy travelling!
