Welcome to West & North Mainland!

The West and North Mainland is an outstanding part of Orkney, providing amazing landscapes and very interesting monuments that date from prehistoric centuries.

On one hand, the place offers a land with outrageous mountains that attract those who love hillwalking and mountaineering. The Freedom Mountain is the best place for all these activities because both locals and tourists love to discover the open and quiet spaces that appear in their way from Lochalsh to Cape Wrath.

Others love to visit the Wester Ross area of Scotland beacause the mountains from here are among the oldest on the planet, with sandstone terracing that gives weight and importance to this place. The area around the Loch Torridon surprises with the “big three”: the ridges of Ben Alligin, Ben Eighe and Liathach are challenging for all those who want to see these places by foot, providing amazing routes for hill walkers.

On the other hand, the West and North Mainland has an outstanding sea scenery. The most important village on the coast is Shieldaig, with simple but beautiful white houses situated in a row by the shore. This is a refreshing and revitalizing place that will give you a quality peacefull mood, quiet that can be disturbed only by the oystercathcers.
