Welcome to Vulcan
Vulcan is situated at the foothills Vâlcan Mountains and is crossed by the national road DN 66A, which connects Vulcan with Valea cu Brazi. The town lies at a distance of 12 km from Petrosani and about 110 km from Deva (capital of Hunedoara County).
Vulcan took its name from Vâlcan Gorge in the Godeanu Massif, crossing between the Jiu Valley and Northern Oltenia. Vulcan is surrounded by Aninoasa in the east, Lupeni in the west, in the north by Băniţa and Gorj County in to the south. It is the second biggest city of the Jiu Valley, behind the city of Petrosani, and is crossed from west to east by the West Jiu river.
