   Welcome to San Gimignano

   San Gimignano is a small medieval town situated on a hill in Tuscany, 35 minutes drive northwest of Siena or southwest of Florence. It is famous for its medieval architecture, especially the towers to be seen from several kilometers outside the city. Of the 60 towers owned by rich people wishing to stay protected from looting the city, most have been demolished Quantity Florence took over the city. White wine of the region - Vernaccia di Gimignano is also famous.

   The settlement was founded in third century BC. by the Etruscans. Historical evidence dating from the tenth century, when the settlement adopted the name San Gimignano priest who defended the city of Attila's Huns. During the Middle Ages and the Renaissance, the city was a stopping point for Catholic pilgrims who went to Rome and the Vatican. City development has been accelerated and trade in agricultural products from the fertile hilly cities.

   Saint Fina, also known as Serafina, is a thirteenth century saint who was born on March 12 1238 in San Gimignano. Every day is celebrated March 12 Saint Serafina and says its housing still exists in this city. On 8 May 1300, at San Gimignano hosted Dante Alighieri in his role as ambassador of the Guelph League in Tuscany.
