Welcome to Outer Hebrides!
The Outer Hebrides are the westernmost string of islands from the Hebrides, also know as the Western Isles, situated of course at west of the Scottish Highlands. Totally, there are 119 islands, but the main five which are also inhabitated are: Lewis and Harris (they are actually two parts of the same island, although often described as if they are separate islands), North Uist, Benbecula, South Uist and Barra.
The scenery from the Outer Hebrides is absolutely beautiful. Even the name “hebrides” means ‘isles at the edge of the sea’ that are usually characterized as being bleak and treeless, the landscape is mountainous, very challenging and rocky for those who love hiking and climbing, but also verdant and lush because here the rain tend to fall quite frequently.
