Introducing Neunkirchen

   Welcome to Neunkirchen!

Neunkirchen is the capital of the district with the same name from the Austrian state of Lower Austria. The first time it was mentioned as “Niuwenchirgun” was in 1094.

Unfortunately, Neunkirchen is quite ignored by tourists despite the fact that the place is an important settlement due to the powerful industries that developed here, but also a historic and commercial area.

Once you reach to Neunkirchen you should start by visiting the most attractive historical building - the  Heimatmuseumor town museum. But also see the motorcycle museum, known as the Motorradmuseum and the the Kulturzentrum Am Stiergraben. You will also enjoy visiting the parish church of Maria Himmelfahrt, which dates back to 1094 and represents a very unusual church with thick walls that seem to be like fortress. The church was demaged in 1907 by a fire, then it was refurbished and in 1951 the four bells were created, which is again, quite unusual.

While walking in Neunkirchen you will see the Trinity Column which is also known as the Pestsäule, a 14 metres high creation built by the artists Michael Hackhofer and Andreas Schellauf in memory of those who died of bubonic plague in 1713. Also take a walk in the market square and Holzplatz square because you won't regret.

If you love nature, than the green Stadtpark and also the Spitalspark or the Peterswald will definitely delight your tastes. You can just take a walk, or even make some jogging because there are special paths here.
