Welcome to Isle of Skye!
Isle of Skye or simply Skye is the largest and most northerly island in the area of Inner Hebrides from Scotland. The Isle of Skye takes its name from the old Norse sky-a, which means “cloud island”, a Viking reference to the often mist-enshrouded Cuillin Hills. Skye is part of the Highland Council local government area, a great road bridge linking it to the mainland.
The mountainous centre is dominated by the Cuillin hills, but the great scenery is also amazing because of the island's peninsulas that radiate from it. The spectacular landscape provides with jagged mountains, velvet beautiful moors, very interesting and sparkling lochs, and very tall sea cliffs.
The island is also known for its wildlife, full of different species of birds including the Golden Eagle, but also animals like the Red Deer or the Atlantic Salmon. Unfortunately, the weather here is very changeable, so always be prepared with proper clothes.
Along with Edinburgh and Loch Ness, Skye is one of the top three tourist destinations from Scotland, but also the largest and most northerly island from here. The vibrant culture and heritage, the crofting museums, the old castles, but also the cosy restaurants or pubs attract many tourists each year.
