



Welcome to Herstal!
Herstal is a nice municipality of Belgium, from other nineteen which is also known as Heristal, or Héristal. This little town lies along the Meuse river in the country of Walloon Region and province of Liege, being included in the well known „Greater Liege” agglomeration. Being populated with almost 600.000 inhabitants, Herstal contains the communes of Vottem, Milmort and Liers.
The most important place that provides jobs for locals is the big armaments factory which is known as the Fabrique Nationale (FN) and represents the largest industrial zone from Haut-Sart.
The local history says that the places around the Meuse River and the lush resources from here attracted locals since the fifth millennium and then the place became a great fortress known as Heristal. All the stories about the amazing past of this little town can be seen and heart at the local museum. The place also provides with artifacts from the prehistoric and gallo-roman times, some interesting displays that show the history from the Pippinid dynasty and also a Frankish burial place. This is also the perfect place to see the collection of those industrial products and samples that are made at the Fabrique Nationale
Once you reach to Herstal you should also go and see the Pippin Tower which is also known as “Tour Pépin”, an interesting building which incorporates a wall section that once belonged to the palace of Charlemagne.
