Welcome to Egilsstaoir
Egilsstadir is currently the largest town in eastern Iceland with a population of just 2,300 people. The place officially became a city in 1947, and it has been in a permanent economic growth ever since. New projects are being developed in the area every day, which will probably make tourism gain importance here in the future too. Right now, the city has a few structures that will catch your eye, such as the Eioar long wave transmitter, a scientific project, and the Karahnjukar Dam. Also, nearby you can admire the Hengifoss Waterfall and take a walk through the largest forest in all of Iceland, which is known as Hallormsstaoaskogur.
Air Iceland is the airline that has flights to and from Egilsstadir This carrier will take you to Reykjavik, which is the capital of Iceland and then further to the destination of your choice. This is also the case when trying to get here from another country. First search for flights to Reykjavik and then from the capital to Egilsstadir. If you are looking to save money, you should travel during the off-peak season. Another way to save money is to book your flight, lodging, and car rental together in a package deal.
