   Welcome to Centreville!
 
   Centreville is an American city situated in the Bibb County from Alabama, USA. The city is the county seat for this area.
 
   In the 2000 census, Centreville had 2466 residents, 953 households and 684 families. 75.95% of the population were white, 23.03% were African-Americans. 24.6% of the population were under 18 years old, 17.8% over 65. The average age was 39 years. The average income of residents was 15 449 U.S. dollars, while 19.4% of the population lived below the poverty line.
 
   Since Centreville was lying near the Cahaba River, the town became from early times an important trading point for the environment. In 1821 the first post office from the entire county was built in Centreville and in 1823 Sarah Willis Chotard came in this area and settled colonists. In 1829 the city became the  county seat of the Bibb County. Centreville was declared in 1832 and since 1978, the town of Centreville is one of the National Register of Historic Places.
 
   In Centreville, there are two public and one private school: Cahawba Christian Academy (ages 3-17, which is private), the Bibb County High School (14-17, also public) and the Centreville High School (10-13, public).
 
   Fresco Thompson was an American baseball player and manager who was born and lived in Centreville. He was born in 1901 and died in 1968.
