Borgloon is a city and municipality in the Belgian province of Limburg and the district of Tongeren in Belgium. The city is the capital of the electoral district and the district court Borgloon. The present city was formed city in 1976 by the merger of 12 former municipalities, and has over 10,000 inhabitants in an area of 5111 ha. The official language is Dutch. Many, especially older residents use the local West-Limburgian dialect.

The fusion center next to the town has still Only Hoepertingen and has more than 1000 inhabitants. The others are small Haspengouwse farming villages. In the district courts Bommer still lies the hamlet of Haren.

Even Borgloon is not a very big city, it still provides with many amazing places that worth a visit. So start your visiting route with the Town Hall, the Romanesque-Gothic St. Odulfuskerk which is a basilica with five naves. In this church laid the graves of Loon, and after 1366 the prince-bishops of Liège took the oath at their coronation. Then you can go and visit the castle hill of the castle of Loon, the chapel of Hel Courts, the steam syrup factory that won the Battle Monument in 2007, the castle of Rullingen, the church of Great Loon, the old 16th Century home of Baldwin Martens and even the area from the foot of Castle Hill.

The most significant economic activities in Borgloon that bring profit to the city are the orchards and tourism.
