Bayou La Batre is a city situated in the Mobile County of Alabama, USA. According to an official estimate from 2006, the population was 2745. The total area of Bayou La Batre is 1.8 square kilometers, of which 0.4 km ² is water.
Bayou La Batre was first called „Riviere D’Erbane”, being part of the French settlement of the Gulf Coast. The city was the first settlement from the south part of the current county. It was found in 1786 and got its name from the French battery of the artillery from the west bank called „bayou of the battery”. On 29 August 2005, Bayou La Batre was ravaged by the Katrina Hurricane.
In the census of 2000, Bayou La Batre had 2313 inhabitants, distributed to 769 households and 599 families. The population density was thus 221.6 inhabitants / km ². 52.44% of residents were white, 33.29% Asian, 10.25% African American. In 37.7% of households were living children under the age of 18. The average income was 24 539 U.S. dollars per household, with 28.2% of the population living below the poverty line.

The idea of packaging seafood from a huge number of boats, determined the local Chamber of Commerce to name Bayou La Batre as the "Seafood Capital of Alabama”.
