1The Liberty Hotel
After 120 years of housing Boston's notorious criminals, the Charles Street Jailhouse was deemed unfit for inmates after prisoners revolted due to the poor living conditions. In 2001 (with prisoners now removed) a design team was hired to transform the prison into a historic hotel.
Now, I've never been to jail, and never wanted to, but a night at the Liberty Hotel does have allure. The Liberty happily incorporates and preserves many original jailhouse features. You can enjoy dinner next to cell gates, metal bars, and wrought iron windows at their CLINK restaurant. And though the thrill of captivity might be exciting, you won't find yourself sleeping on a hard, cold bed at the Liberty. Suites are luxurious and contemporary, offering everything a prison cell does not, including views of the Boston area, wifi, flat panel TVs and plush bathrooms.
2 The Madonna Inn
The Madonna Inn may be a California staple for accommodations, but some of their themed suites are anything by normal. Each room has a unique theme from Western to Merry-Go-Round, but by far the strangest are the all rock-grotto rooms with waterfall showers. See for yourself....
3 The Utter Inn
Talk about adventure! This typical red Swedish boat house stands alone on the water, below it is your hotel room. That's right, this single room is 3 Meters underwater! You are taken by boat to your room and given explicit instructions on what to do next. Once in your room, you are surrounded by panoramic windows, with views of the aquatic habitat - fish and all!
